Fire Department Receives Lucas II Device
The Fire Department was able to receive a Lucas II Device
through the generous donations of Warren Drescher and Victory
Christian Church. The device which cost $8419.00 was completely covered by the donations. The Lucas II Device is connected to a patient who is in cardiac arrest and provides consistent and continuous CPR and has been credited with saving many lives in other communities. We are thankful for the continued support of our businesses and residents.
The fire department is pleased to announce that it has received additional donations. The Coitsville Ladies Auxiliary has donated $3802.00 to purchase the rest of the emergency pagers that alert firefighters when there is a call. The Ladies Auxiliary provided $2500.00 last year to make the first purchase of pagers.
Tom Mersaros, Mesaros Towing, donated two pieces of equipment to assist in auto extrication. A new Sawzall saw and circular saw was donated. In addition, on a regular basis Mesaros Towing provides vehicles for the department to train extrication techniques on. Thanks to Purple Cat for $500 for installation of emergency generator
Thanks to all of those who continue to donate to the fire department to allow them to better serve the community and its’ residents.
As a result of the passage of the levy last November the Fire Department has been able to make the following purchases. A set of Hurst Edraulics Extrication Tools, these were necessary because the current tools are so old, we can no longer get parts. ($29,500,00)
We purchased seven sets of Personal Protective Equipment (Turnout Gears), this was necessary because new standard states the PPE must be replaced every ten years. ($12,488.00)
We were informed by the State Fire Marshal that any hose manufactured before 1987 has to be removed from service. We had many sections of hose that was manufactured before 1987 and must be replaced. This will be the first installment for new hose. ($3,990.00)
We thank the Trustees for approving these purchases!
The fire department was excited to be able to obtain an Emergency Back-up Generator from Boardman Township. After much planning and work, the generator has been installed and is in service. This generator will not only allow the firefighters to be able to get the equipment out of the station in the event of a power failure. It will also allow the fire department to open a shelter should a power outage affect the community. This would allow those seeking to keep warm during such an outage. While we were doing this install the Board of Trustees agreed to allow the fire department to upgrade the entire electrical service at the Fire Station. This work was planned for in 2014, but lack of funding prevented it from being completed. Through the passage of the recent levy we were able to complete both projects.
The department has taken advantage of the summer weather to participate in several training opportunities, many with our mutual aid departments. We have completed Trench Rescue Training, Auto Extrication, Flammable Liquid and Vehicle Fire Training, Haz-Mat Awareness, Water Shuttle, Driver’s Training and Ventilation Operations just to name a few. Our department has had over thirty-five different training opportunities so far this year.
